The A&B Building was made entirely from driftwood. Mr. Harcourt had gathered it all himself, picking each individual piece up from the sand. He’d inherited the little plot of land where the old post office had stood and had decided to make use of it. The building was his little project. He wanted to construct something from what would otherwise go to waste. He wanted to leave his mark on the town.

At last he’d completed it after years of work. With loving care, he’d sawn and hammered, creating his monument.

He stood there, looking at the sea-bleached grey-brown of the wood, admiring every aspect of his creation. It was every he’d dreamed and more. He’d proved it could be done, worked himself down to the bone for his dream.

Well, he thought. Now what?

  7. Great story! I think at this point he should just admire his finished product and allow creativity to come to him once again.

Nice ending! I guess that’s what people with a need to constantly build stuff think at the end of their projects.

  9. As I’ve looked through the entries for this weeks Finish the Story, this one is the most similar to mine. We both had the idea man collecting bits of driftwood, year after year, then building the house and finally achieving his dream. But of course mines a bit different. Nice work 🙂
