Look everyone, a cat picture! And also a flash fiction response to this week’s Mondays Finish the Story. When you’re done staring at the cat picture (which, admittedly, might take a while) you can read the very short story below. And then stare at the cat picture again.

Now this is living the life of Riley.

Mostly, you sleep. You lie there in the sun, letting it warm you. There’s no place to get to, no reason to rush.

You’re content with sleeping. Content with just being.

When you’re hungry, the big ones give you food. Sometimes you have to remind them a bit. You might have to meow loudly until they pay attention. You might have to scratch them a bit if you don’t think they’re paying attention. Eventually they get the message.

Sometimes you race around, your legs thundering under you. In that moment, you are not Riley. You are not just a house cat.

In that moment, you are predator. You are lion.

This is living the life of Riley.
