Mondays Finish the Story- The Secret in the Coin

Here’s my entry for this week’s Mondays Finish the Story!

She lived a life that some would describe as being on edge. Others would be less kind and tactful in their choice of words.

“She’s dangerous,” they murmured. They whispered of a dark secret, something Liz hid from the rest of the world.

Liz didn’t care. Her secrets were her own and she’d make sure they stayed buried.

The first time she glimpsed the coin, it was as a glint on the sidewalk as she raced past on her motorbike. Somehow she knew what it was all the same.

The second time was when she hiking through the woods, part of a stumbling, shambling group of half-drunk friends. She bent down to examine it, brushing off the dirt. The nickel glared at her and she threw it back down.

The last time, it was sitting on her mantle when she got home, waiting for her.

She stood there, unmoving.

Someone knows, she thought. Someone knows. 

For the first time, she knew fear.
