Friday Fictioneers – Fortress of the Enemy

It towered above the rocks, an impassible obstacle. While it looked empty, the travelers knew better than to trust that. The creatures never left their nest abandoned.

“We’ll have to risk it,” the leader said, holding up Deathsting, her sharp black blade. She crawled to the top of the boulder, sliding over the rounded edge.

The other two followed hesitantly, fingers never far from their weapons. They were completely exposed to an attack.

Then came the buzzing.

“Take cover!”

All three struggled to get to safety as the wasps swarmed in.

Their world was small but deadly.

    I thought it was a wasp nest too. Deadly but beautiful in its way. Love the mini adventure you’re created here. All swords should have names and Deathsting is a cracker 🙂

    Interesting story JA. No one likes wasps it seems, no matter their size. We had a nest by our mailbox last year, I hated going to get the mail before we spray foamed their nest. It was interesting to see them build it though.
