A thousand earth-born stars, the lanterns rose high over the river, shining bright in the darkness.
Each contained a spark, a flame, a soul ready to take flight and move beyond the curtain of night.
Little Tai sat on the riverbank, her eyes red-rimmed, and wondered how to call them back.
This is for Three Line Tales. Thanks to Sonya for running the challenge and gn dim for the prompt photo!
This is surrealistic. Wonder what magic could all those souls create on earth?

Beautifully written J.A. It’s an interesting idea that these souls are being released in these Lanturns. Contrasted with the anal, child wanting the souls back, makes me think she eithor does not understand that the souls are better off, or that a soul near and dear to her was let go forever and she only now understands that.
