Timer

camera-ted-strutz

The camera clicks. Another picture is saved to the memory card. Another snapshot of time. Another secret.

The clicks are automatic now. No finger to guide them. No eye to see them.

The camera’s owner is far away now and getting farther. His lifeless head rocks from one side to the other. There is not even a sliver of light in the dark of the trunk.

Soon they will stop. They will give him to dark waters and he will be lost.

But the camera will be found. Full of pictures. Full of secrets.

  1. I like the way you tell this, giving us partial images and allowing us to put them together. ‘There is not even a sliver of light in the dark of the trunk.’ – that’s a great line! Not just actual light, but metaphorical light, the light of hope and goodness.
