The Crossing

There is a wolf in the forest, with teeth like glinting knives and hungry, hungry eyes.

There is a serpent in the lake, coiling and writhing, water glistening on scales shadow-dark and shadow-slick.

The girl walks along the narrow bridge, trying not to look down, not to look into the dark of the woods, and to keep her eyes upon the shore ahead, rising safe and green from the black waters.

This is for Three Line Tales 257. Thanks to Sonya for running the challenge and Diana Aishe for providing the prompt photo!
